What is "Obstetrics " ?
Obstetrics is the field of study concentrated on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. As a medical specialty, obstetrics is combined with gynecology under the discipline known as obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), which is a surgical field.
My experience over Obstetrics "One year after my laparoscopic right hydrosalpinx drainage, my right tube was not visible during my final lap surgery. It is missing - I never had it removed. Thoughts?"
I’ve stooped to coming to this subreddit to see if anyone has ever heard of such a thing. Trying for a baby, had a chemical pregnancy confirmed via blood work and HPT. Was crushed and got all my old medical records to see if any prior surgeries could give me insight into how this happened only to find out that my right tube is supposedly missing. I’ll add that I am aware chemical pregnancy is common but I was heartbroken & desperate. Subsequently had ANOTHER chemical pregnancy last cycle, but not as crushed this time. I now know this was not my or any dr’s fault. It happens. Wanting to build a family but am dealing with a mystery. We are not trying naturally anymore as my mental health isn’t good from all this and IVF is likely our answer anyways.
Backstory: I had a left sided oophorectomy & right sided paratubal cyst removed in 2017. Left Fallopian tube was not removed and neither was the right Fallopian tube: just the cyst. I had another lap procedure in 2018 for persisting pain that never improved post oophorectomy. By surprise, a Hydrosalpinx was found on my right Fallopian tube. Doc flushed the tubes. No patency on the right tube, patency in the left tube was normal. Surgery notes say that patency of the right tube was restored after repairing the hydrosalpinx. There are photos I have from this procedure of BOTH MY TUBES being present. This is important for what’s next. Final surgery was late 2019- gallbladder removal. Asked a GYN/Oncologist to take a peek at the same time. Abdominal pain was still horrible, but the GI was doubtful the GB was causing any lower abdominal pain. Findings are in the photo I will attach in the comments but to summarize, the GYN Oncology surgeon remarked “normal appearing pelvis in general, post left oophorectomy and right salpingectomy” but the issue is I NEVER had a salpingectomy. Confirmed with prior surgeon from hydrosalpinx procedure. He said “you have/had both tubes. I did not remove the hydrosalpinxed tube. Did you get a salpingectomy any time after me?” I said no and he was perplexed. As I said, I then obtained photos from that surgery and sure enough both tubes were there. Never removed. Next I speak to the Gyn Oncologist. We talk. I assume it was an error in notes which I know is very very very rare, but their PA said “The notes are accurate. your tube was not there. It isn’t there. I don’t know what to tell you. You either had it removed and don’t remember or it twisted somewhere, but usually we can see it anyway. You’ll need IVF” and was generally very rude and unhelpful. I told her I had a chemical pregnancy so how did that happen if no tube was there? She just said I don’t know and we got off the phone.
Working with IVF/RE now and she’s never heard of this but we will need to remove the right side as hydrosalpinx is a tubal death sentence. HSG is ordered but I am terrified- at this point I wonder if a final laparoscopic peek is what’s best. I am terrified for my fertility. My AMH is 3.0ng/mL and day 3 FSH is 7.2. All I’ve got going for me is my right ovary and I’m worried about damaging it if the HSG isn’t done right but idk if that’s a thing. They’re putting me under anesthesia for this HSG anyway and I’d rather not have two anesthesia events in such a short time if surgery is inevitable?
Anyway my main question is….has anyone ever seen a tube disappear post hydrosalpinx? Or…for any reason? Final surgery notes that claim I had a right salpingectomy at some point, from the last lap, are attached in the comments. Any replies would be amazing.
