Obstetrics is the field of study concentrated on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. As a medical specialty, obstetrics is combined with gynecology under the discipline known as obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), which is a surgical field.

My experience over Obstetrics "Is it normal to be scheduled with midwife for gynecology appointment?"

I recently got scheduled for my first gynecology appointment partially to establish care as I have not yet been although I’m 22 and partially to address something I noticed.

However, the clinic assigned me to a midwife, and I am unsure how I feel about this given none of my concerns are pregnancy related and I do want to potentially talk to her about birth control options.

Is this normal for a midwife to see patients with more gynecology related issues? Should I try to see someone who specializes in gynecology?
