Obstetrics - Does only having one ovary affect your cycle?:Health care

What is "Obstetrics " ?

Obstetrics is the field of study concentrated on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. As a medical specialty, obstetrics is combined with gynecology under the discipline known as obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), which is a surgical field.

My experience over Obstetrics "Does only having one ovary affect your cycle?"

Story time: In February of ‘21 I had to have one of ovaries and tubes removed. One night I was bloated, nauseous/dry-heaving, and had unbearable pain in my side to the point I was crying. I have had issues with severe constipation and kidney stones in the past so I just figured it was one of those two. After waiting almost two full days with this pain, it started to become so overwhelming to the point where I could barely move. This was during peak covid so I was trying not to go to the ER, but at this point I had to. After sitting in the ER for a few hours the pain started to finally lessen but my lower stomach was still extremely sensitive and bloated. Once they did ultrasounds they concluded that I had a 14 cm teratoma tumor (they described it as the size of a grapefruit) on my left ovary that cause a torsion. At this point it had untangled so they sent me home to wait two days until the OBGYN came back from vacation to do the surgery. They told me to come straight back if the pain started again and they’d have to do emergency surgery, but thankfully that didn’t happen. Once the doctor was back, they did the surgery. They removed the tumor, but my ovary was already dead so they had to remove it and the left tube as well.

Anyways, since this all has happen my periods have never been the same. They used to be 4-5 days long with a heavy flow, but now they are barely 1-3 days long and I get a medium flow at max. I know my one surviving ovary is compensating for her lost twin, but is this normal for my cycle to change so much? Or could it just be an unrelated coincidence? I’m a healthy 25 year old if that provides any color, and I am also an international adoptee so I have no idea what my family medical history is. Thanks for reading!
