What is "Obstetrics " ?
Obstetrics is the field of study concentrated on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. As a medical specialty, obstetrics is combined with gynecology under the discipline known as obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), which is a surgical field.
My experience over Obstetrics "35mm endometrium, with vascular flow, and heterogeneous appearance on US. How long can I afford to let them make me wait?"
My PCP's office called me three hours after my transvaginal ultrasound yesterday. They said I need to see a gynecologist and offered to set up a referral. I said sure. I hadn't read the report yet. Now that I have...
First thing this morning I called the gynecologist's office to schedule, but they didn't have the referral yet. So I called and left a message with PCP'S office. Sent a message in patient portal too. It's almost the end of the business day here, so I called both back, but wasn't able to get through to anyone and was advised by the recordings not to leave duplicate messages.
I've spent the last four years getting the run-around. On June 18, 2018, At the very start of my symptoms, I had a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound scheduled. After the pelvic, the technician said something to the effect of: ‘Your doctor ordered a second ultrasound (transvaginal), but it looks like this one pretty well covered it. It’s up to you if you want to go ahead with it.’ I was exhausted and uncomfortable with his apparent discomfort, besides which I took his words to mean that he found the problem, which I was sure at the time was an intestinal obstruction. So I passed, went home and waited anxiously for the results. And I didn't have to wait long. They called with the results the next day. I had slept poorly; could not find a position that did not put uncomfortable pressure on my abdomen. I was haggard and ready to be told why, any reason at all; but what they said was that the ultrasound was “unremarkable”. I hung up and broke down.
So it seems a reasonable guess that this has been brewing all that time. And I don't believe the prognosis will be good, though I'm far from giving up. So how persistent do I need to be? What is a reasonable timeframe in which to be seen?
They recommended MRI with and without contrast next. I don't know why PCP'S office didn't just go ahead and order it.
But I know vascular flow in abnormal tissue is a bad thing.
I just want some clarity for once.
Me: 41, Sjogren's suspect, autonomic neuropathy, joint hypermobility syndrome (sister has EDS classical and hypermobile, as well as endometriosis, Sjogren's). All this time my most frightening symptom has been the lapses in concentration, and the most impactful has been the fatigue. I had brain imaging done and was sure the answer was there.
