My experience over Obstetrics "On the pill - but I have an ovarian cyst?"

I have a 2.9mm cyst on my right ovary. If I’m not ovulating, because I’m on the pill (Junel for years and year), how does a cyst develop without ovulation? Also, why does this happen? I need some science. Thanks!
