My experience over Obstetrics "what is the truth about not having a period?"

I’ve seen on the internet that it’s ok to take some sort of birth control that will stop your periods but my mom told me that you should have a period every month or the lining of your womb will become too thick and you are risk of cancer. Is it ok to skip your periods or no?
