What is "Obstetrics " ?
Obstetrics is the field of study concentrated on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. As a medical specialty, obstetrics is combined with gynecology under the discipline known as obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), which is a surgical field.
My experience over Obstetrics "return of a bartholin cyst?"
hi there! i've been dealing with bartholin cysts for three years now. the first time it happened was new years day so i didn't go to the er but a nurse told me over the phone that her recommendation was to sit in a super hot bath and let it go away on its own and it did exactly that! the following year, it came back like the world's worst anniversary and then this year (while i was recovering from covid at that!) it returned. i'm in my mid twenties now but living at home so my mom, bless her, has been gloved up and hands on, being my eyes down there. thank god for her! i provided this backstory if only so i can preface this all by saying, i've gotten used to this pain and all that accompanies it, to be fair. i know what to do, it seems like. i've never been to the doctor over it but surgeries like marsupialization (sp?) do stand out to me to hopefully prevent the return, especially with me returning to school and work full time!
the last time i had this cyst was roughly three weeks ago, again after i had just gotten over covid. when it popped, there was blood and pus but also a smell that didn't linger or anything but was definitely prevalent. it threw me and my poor mother off, tbh. there had never been a smell before. however, i was pretty much fine from there without any big issues. then, earlier this week on monday, i got up from a chair and noticed a slight pain that felt annoyingly familiar. i had plans for yesterday that i had zero intention of missing and after a bit of poking around in that area while in the shower, i felt a hardened bump. i was pissed! i spent the next 18 hours with a hot towel pressed against the area as often as i could. then, i finally bought a sitz bath and did six of those in two days.
here's the thing: a cyst has never returned this fast. it's kinda been my worst summer ever, with this + the 19 + more than average weight gain. i don't think i could handle another cyst. a big difference this time around has been the pain. it's mostly only when i walk or apply direct pressure on there while laying down or if my heavy handed mom presses down on it. again, bless her but that woman could push a wrestler and shatter his shoulder. previous times, the pain has been intense, to the point where i couldn't lay down, sit, walk, cough, sleep - the only time i was okay was in the shower or bath. is this the fallout of all my preventative hot watering? did i limit the potential pain by spending hours sweating on a toilet?
beyond that, is it likely that a bartholin cyst would come back this fast? my mom keeps saying it doesn't look ready to pop on its own, which is what it's always done, nor does it seem like the regular pain i'm usually in. could it be an ingrown or pulled hair? i haven't shaved in a hot minute (no patience tbh) so could those have similar symptoms? i'm trying to get a quick ob appt but should i just get to the er asap? what volcano witch cursed me with this and how do i reverse it?
listen, i'd post a picture of the bump but i feel like i've shared plenty already so hugs & kisses for all the potential help & hopefully before y'all even get a chance to reply to this, it will have popped on it's own so i can just pretend this post never happened <3
