My experience over Obstetrics "Random brown spotting over the past ~3 weeks with Mirena IUD"

I’ve had my Mirena IUD just about two years now. It was a bit of a rough adjustment, with endless spotting and long periods. Thankfully, I’ve been able to stick it out and things have been somewhat better. I still get my period, but it is much lighter and while it still lasts awhile, it’s not always monthly.

Worth mentioning that I did undergo an operative hysteroscopy, polypectomy, D&C a few years ago due to very heavy periods. My baseline periods are stupidly heavy — needing double protection, super tampons, setting alarms overnight, and regularly having palm size clots.

I have some brown discharge/spotting starting about 3 weeks ago (3/29) and thought my period was starting. It lasted only a day or two and I thought I was off the hook. Nothing the next few days… then I felt a lot of wetness in my underwear and was shocked to find watery brown discharge. Again, thought my period was starting.. but it was just a one time thing. Two days ago, same thing… underwear covered in brown discharge but short lived.

Any idea what’s going on??
