Obstetrics - An actual period immediately after D&C?:Health care

What is "Obstetrics " ?

Obstetrics is the field of study concentrated on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. As a medical specialty, obstetrics is combined with gynecology under the discipline known as obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), which is a surgical field.

My experience over Obstetrics "An actual period immediately after D&C?"

This question is actually about something that happened a couple years ago, but it was brought to mind by some current period irregularities. A few years ago, I had a D&C hysteroscope (that's exactly how it was written in my record) and polypectomy. I was told I might have a little bleeding afterwards, but the spotting I had a few hours after the procedure immediately became what looked like an actual period that lasted about 4 days. Some of the blood was even that browner "stale" looking blood that comes with periods, not fresh red blood, and over those days it was the amount that I'd previously had on a regular-light period, complete with that distinct scent period blood has. My understanding was that after a D&C, some bleeding was normal but it should take at least a couple weeks for the lining to build back up to be a period. That bleeding even seemed to reset my cycle to that starting point for a while. I do have a history of starting my period a bit early after any activities that cause the muscles there to contract so if I hadn't been told that the D&C would remove the lining by the staff at that doctor's office, I would have assumed that was all it was. I don't have a relationship with that doctor anymore and my current doctor knows that one so I never felt comfortable asking them. Can post D&C bleeding be identical to a period? Or is it possible I didn't have a full D&C even though that was what my record said?

(If this matters at all, my super heavy periods have been lighter ever since then, and for the past two years or so, they've been fluctuating between coming very far apart, being lighter, then being normal with regular flow again, then repeating that same cycle of fluctuation. Blood tests have been normal, and a pelvic ultrasound last year was also normal. Doctors suggested it was high stress because I do have an anxiety disorder, and I'm also aware that at 36, perimenopause might also be the culprit. That's the current issue that has made me look back on the weird post-D&C period, even though I highly doubt there's any relation.)
