Obstetrics is the field of study concentrated on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. As a medical specialty, obstetrics is combined with gynecology under the discipline known as obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), which is a surgical field.

My experience over Obstetrics "Gyns get kickbacks?"

I went to a new gynecologist and she was really pushing for me to get a hormonal IUD. I currently have a copper one and I get bad cramps one day out of the month but it's manageable. Without talking to me for more than a few minutes, she pushed me to take out the one I have and get a hormonal IUD instead. She insisted that I make an appointment now so she could order me one and have it placed during my next period. Once she stopped to take a breath, I told her I would just keep the one I have until my partner gets a vasectomy. After a quick visit, she handed me a pamphlet with more information about the hormonal IUD. I'm curious to see if anyone else has had a similar experience because I feel like she's getting a kickback or something. I just don't like leaving and feeling like I paid a Dr. for an advertisement.
