What is "Obstetrics " ?

Obstetrics is the field of study concentrated on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. As a medical specialty, obstetrics is combined with gynecology under the discipline known as obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), which is a surgical field.

My experience over Obstetrics "Terbutaline"

Posting on behalf of my wife as she doesn’t use Reddit.

My wife was given subcutaneous terbutaline in L&D as a tocolytic by the on call doc. At her next appointment, her OB said he never uses terbutaline as it’s outdated and can cause serious side effects and now says he has to monitor her and baby very closely for a few weeks. He expressed frustration that the on call doc gave terbutaline to his patient without consulting him.

Doc says wife and baby SHOULD be fine, but Dr. Google has us concerned. What are the chances of baby having severe long term side effects from this? What about mom?

TL;DR: Wife was given terbutaline without knowledge of side effects. We are concerned about long term side effects.
