Obstetrics - just wondering about going to an obgyn:Health care

What is "Obstetrics " ?

Obstetrics is the field of study concentrated on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. As a medical specialty, obstetrics is combined with gynecology under the discipline known as obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), which is a surgical field.

My experience over Obstetrics "just wondering about going to an obgyn"

So for context, I'm 17, and asexual. I'm not having sex, and probably never will be, but my mother and primary care physician think I should go to an obgyn and get started on that realm of things when I turn 18, for health reasons. Here's the thing, I don't really care about going to an obgyn, I don't mind talking about my body's inner workings, and what I experience with my body. I'd actually like to have a doctor to talk to about certain issues I have, and stuff like that. BUT (and this is a very big but) I have no desire to get a papsmear or internal exam. When I was younger I got some sort of swab down there (wasn't a papsmear, and since I was so young they didn't use a speculum, just stuck a qtip looking thing up there, turns out I had a bladder infection) It hurt so bad, I could barely walk and was squeezing my mother's hand while it happened. I know that it might have hurt because A. I was young, and B I had an infection, but I'm so scared to go in and get an actual exam/pap smear done. It hurts to put a tampon in sometimes, but the pain usually goes away after awhile (I think I just hit my hymen and it's very sensitive) I won't ever be having sex (hopefully) but I am concerned that health wise I might just need to bite the bullet and get exams like that. Although cancer in that part of the body doesn't run in my family, breast cancer does so I'll need to get mammograms and stuff when I'm much older, which can be provided by your normal doctor. I just don't know if I'm over reacting, or if it's okay to not get those exams unless absolutely necessary.
