My experience over Obstetrics "Need physician advice regarding C-section risk"
Hi, would really love some advice regarding general consensus on a C-section concern. I am an anaesthesiologist and have seen my fair share of complications in the obstetric OR from ureter/bowel injuries to hemorrage, which makes me nervous about my situation.
I had a prior robotic myomectomy for a large 10cm x 10cm anterior wall fibroid. I recovered well from that, had no more issues and was advised to only have C-section in future pregnancies. I am expecting my first baby this October and I am nervous about complications during my C-section. Mainly concerned for injury to surrounding structures secondary to potential adhesions. I understand C-section is a fairly routine procedure and many women have 2 or 3 of them so scar tissue and risk of accreta is always a concern. So far, my US shows posterior placenta and maybe previa but I need a repeat US at 32 weeks to confirm. I guess my question to fellow physicians or OBGYN providers is, if you were in my situation, would you like a provider who was fellowship trained or had more surgical experience than your average OBGYN? Or is this something that can be easily handled my any competent physician?
