My experience over Obstetrics "Anxious about next Pap. Should I try and use tampons? Tips?"

I (26f) had my first Pap smear a while ago and it was horrible. My OBGYN was great but I had a previous traumatic experience that made it impossible for me to relax. When she was done she rubbed my back for a second, made sure I was okay and told me it wouldn’t always be that bad. I haven’t had sex yet or used tampons so she said if I’m not used to having anything inside that it can be uncomfortable. I am due for another one in a few months and I am already so anxious. Should I start using tampons or should I just let her give me medicine to relax?
