My experience over Obstetrics "Can you bleed during pregnancy?"

My girlfriend had what she believes to be a period a bit over a month after intercourse. This bleeding wasn’t light either, this couldn’t be mistaken for spotting. She bled for 5 days straight. I was wondering if there are other causes of vaginal bleeding and if so could those other causes by stopped by a pregnancy? For example can you have Menorrhagia and bleed while still being pregnant or does pregnancy stop Menorrhagia.
